Obama Is Finally Going To Take Action?

After months of silence and inaction, after months of watching as any and all progress we made in Iraq disappears, after months of watching innocent Syrian and Iraqi civilians being murdered, and after months of watching Christians in the region being exterminated, President Obama finally is taking some action against the terrorists organization IS.

The "Islamic State" (IS) is one of the most evil, bloodthirsty and amoral groups of modern times. They are radical Sunnis, and they kill anyone who doesn't believe as they do, Muslim or not. They behead people who disagree with their radical, religious/political Islamic beliefs and put the heads on public display. They rape women and young girls and force them into marriage; age is of no importance. (One article I read yesterday showed a 7 year old girl who had just "married" one of the terrorists.)

For the first time in 2000 years there are no Christians in the city of Mosul, Iraq. Many of them were able enough to flee after being told by IS "You have a choice. You can convert to Islam, leave town, pay a tax to us, or die." Those who didn't flee and who didn't convert or pay are now dead. IS went through town marking Christian homes and businesses with the symbol below, which is the Islamic equivalent of "N", which in this case stands for "Nazarene," or follower of Jesus. That way they knew where the Christians lived and worked and were able to ensure they were removed from the city.

As is fairly common in major incidents (unless it involves an African-American) President Obama has stayed quiet about the situation in Iraq until very recently. He did say a few weeks ago that we were not going to do anything about IS, even though the Iraqi government was begging us to help. On Thursday Obama finally said we would begin limited air strikes against IS.

I personally believe he finally took this action only because even the Democrats in Washington were saying it's necessary. Senator Dianne Feinstein, one of the most liberal boneheads in Washington (who also happens to be the Chairperson of the Senate Intelligence Committee - an oxymoron if I ever heard one) said recently that if we don't do something about IS now we will be forced to do something later, after they have gained more strength and position. For the first time in a while Feinstein said something intelligent.

Interestingly, in his statement that he was going to do something, he was still non-committal. He said he would effect air strikes "if necessary." I've got news for you, Mr. President - it's been necessary for months now. If you had stopped IS when they were in Syria they wouldn't have taken over half of Iraq in the last couple of months.

I was surprised to learn yesterday that air strikes had already occurred. But according to his spokesperson, Obama's goal is to "contain, not destroy" IS. Once again the President is taking a half-assed approach and not doing what needs to be done. IS needs to be destroyed. They are a threat not only to the immediate region but to the entire Middle East and to the US in the future if not destroyed. They have already declared a caliphate in Syria and Iraq. Apparently our President is OK with that since he's simply going to contain them rather than destroy them.

Obama's approach to world threats is as pathetic as was Jimmy Carter's. Obama seems to have the same attitude toward Islamic groups as Carter. Carter recently said the US should recognize Hamas as a legitimate political power. It seems apparent that Obama feels the same way. He has practically turned his back on our ally in their fight against the terrorist organization and wants Israel to just live with being attacked on a daily basis. Regardless of what he says publicly, Obama want's Israel to stop defending herself.

IS needs to be destroyed. Air strikes should occur until they retreat from their position near Baghdad then they should continue on them as they move. The pictures coming from the area should show a completely destroyed convoy - like the Iraqi convoy leaving Kuwait - only this time the convoy needs to be utterly and completely wiped out. Terrorists who murder innocent civilians and rape women and children do not need a second chance. But they'll get one from this President.

A report this morning says that IS has advanced in their goal to take Kurdistan despite US airstrikes on their positions yesterday. The President needs to pay attention. IS is not afraid of the US and they are not afraid to die in their efforts to claim the area for themselves. You don't "contain" people like that. The only way to stop them is to destroy them. What part of that does Obama not understand?

He either doesn't understand or doesn't care. It seems very difficult for President Obama to order any type of military action against Islamic enemies. He repeatedly shows his preference for Islam over other religious and/or political groups. Despite his professed Christianity, one cannot help but wonder where his heart truly lies. Only Obama, a close circle of friends, and God know the truth about that.
