Absolutely Unbelievable

I was wondering what to write about today then I saw an article that gave me my topic. It concerns the stupidity of a very smart man - who is not alone.

The channel was CNN. The topic was the Israeli/Hamas conflict. Enter one Marc Lamont Hill, with a PhD in education, who is a "Distinguished Professor of African-American Studies at Morehouse University in Atlanta. He's an intelligent man who is also an activist for "social justice." So I guess it's not really surprising that he said the following:

"But what the Iron Dome does is it also takes away all of Hamas's military leverage which is very different than say, 10 years ago or 15 years ago in other wars like Lebanon, et cetera," he said. "As a result, it not only serves a defensive purpose but de facto serves an offensive purpose. It allows Israel to essentially assault and siege Gaza without any retribution or response on the other side. So again, to some extent, they are not just funding defense, they are funding an offensive war and ultimately an occupation. That for me, is the problem."

It is obvious that Dr. Hill either doesn't understand or simply ignores the realities of war. War is not designed to be an fair contest where both sides trade casualties on an even scale. War is about defeating the enemy and winning - even while attempting to minimize civilian casualties. It's about destroying your enemy's ability to wage war against you.

In his apparent passion for Hamas, Hill failed to mention that Hamas not only started this conflict but they are the ones who have kept it going, repeatedly breaking cease-fire agreements just hours after the agreements were reached. That's just the reality of how it works. And Hill is smart enough to know that. He just let's ideology get in the way of logical thinking.

Katie Pavlich, News Editor at Townhall.com, called Hill out on Twitter yesterday. In response, Hill denied saying what he said.

"I know you don't care about actual facts, but that's not at all what I said," Hill responded. When Pavlich posted a transcript of Hill's comments he changed his tune, saying he doesn't want Hamas to have weapons. He also said he wants "moderates" to aid in the peace process, then immediately clarified that.

"I'm not calling Hamas moderate," he said on Twitter. "I'm saying there are moderate organizations that could prevail."

Apparently Hill doesn't understand the part of the Hamas charter that calls for the destruction of the State of Israel and its replacement with a Palestinian Islamic state from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.

Dr. Hill is not the first liberal American to takes sides with Hamas. There are many out there who feel the same way. Even the UN got involved last week, saying that Israels is committing war crimes because they have the Iron Dome and Hamas does not, and that the USA is committing war crimes by funding Israel's Iron Dome system. Utterly unbelievable.

There is a report out today that says the "Israeli bombing of a UN school" was staged - that the bombs really landed outside the school and Hamas members carried bodies into the school for a propaganda photo op. Is it really so hard to believe that a terrorist group who uses civilians as human shield and fires weapons from inside schools and mosques would do something like that? Hamas has already admitted using civilians as shields. And Israel is the bad guy here?

Dr. Hill is an intelligent man. A PhD in education isn't something that's given out to just anyone. But he's either not very bright when it comes to the topic of war or he sees things through ideological eyes and ignores the rest. I'm voting for the latter.

Israel is defending itself against attack by a terrorist organization. They're in it to win and they are fighting the war in the manner that Hamas makes necessary. That includes civilian deaths if Hamas fires weapons at Israel while surrounding them with civilians. Israel takes out the weapons and the terrorists. If Hamas puts civilians in harm's way that's the fault of Hamas (and the Palestinians who elected them to their government) not the fault of Israel.

The sooner the world understands that the more likely it is that Hamas will eventually cease and desist.
