Same Auld Lang Syne

Saw a post by a friend that I didn't realize was a true story. I wanted to share it.

On Christmas Eve in 1975, singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg ran into an old high school girlfriend; a chance encounter that would lead to one of his most endearing and popular songs, "Same Old Lang Syne." 5 years later, in December of 1980, the world first heard that song as it began its run on the charts that would last for more than 4 months.


Met my old lover in the grocery store. The snow was falling Christmas Eve.

I stole behind her in the frozen foods and I touched her on the sleeve

She didn't recognize the face at first... but then her eyes flew open wide.

She went to hug me and she spilled her purse and we laughed until we cried.


We took her groceries to the checkout stand. The food was totaled up and bagged.

We stood there lost in our embarrassment as the conversation dragged.

We went to have ourselves a drink or two, but couldn't find an open bar.

We bought a six-pack at the liquor store and we drank it in her car.


We drank a toast to innocence, we drank a toast to now.

We tried to reach beyond the emptiness but neither one knew how.


She said she'd married her an architect who kept her warm and safe and dry.

She would have liked to say she loved the man but she didn't like to lie.

I said the years had been a friend to her and that her eyes were still as blue.

But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw doubt or gratitude.


She said she saw me in the record stores and that I must be doing well.

I said the audience was heavenly but the traveling was hell.


We drank a toast to innocence, we drank a toast to now.

And tried to reach beyond the emptiness but neither one knew how.

We drank a toast to innocence, we drank a toast to time.

We're living in our eloquence. Another 'auld lang syne.'


The beer was empty and our tongues were tired and running out of things to say.

She gave a kiss to me as I got out and I watched her drive away.

Just for a moment I was back at school... and felt that old familiar pain.

And as I turned to make my way back home - the snow turned into rain.


Dan Fogelberg, in my humble opinion, was one of the single, best lyricists of my lifetime. This song, "Leader of the Band," and my favorite - "Nexus." He often told intricate, detailed and intimate stories then set them to his own amazing music. He was one of my favorite artists. Harry Chapin had a similar gift but Harry died before he really got a chance to show off his writing talents.

So here's to you, Dan. Thanks for the songs that I know so well and still sing when they come on the radio. And thanks to Doreen for sharing the story.

Gun Ownership Under a Biden Presidency

 

Joe Biden supporters like to say "He doesn't want to take your guns." Whether innocently or intentionally, those supporters are not paying attention.

In October Biden said he wants to do away with the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which could bankrupt the entire firearms industry.

The PLCAA, signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2005, prevents gun manufacturers from being sued by victims or victims' families if one of their products that is legally purchased and owned is somehow misused by someone, as in the commission of a crime or a child being accidentally shot

Biden has stated one of his priorities is to repeal this law, opening up avenues for people to sue gun manufacturers if someone is shot and/or killed by someone who uses the gun legally or illegally. He says no other manufacturer enjoys such protections. But when is the last time you heard about a car manufacturer being sued by someone because one of their vehicles was used during the commission of a crime?

These lawsuits would initially cause gun prices to skyrocket and eventually could bankrupt the manufacturers, which is Biden's intention.

Biden's Vice Presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, and his selected Chief of Staff, Jennifer Dillon, have both stated the campaign's intention to initiate a mandatory buyback of "assault weapons," forcing Americans to sell such weapons to the government or register them with ATF. Biden has also stated his intention to tax owners who choose to keep the weapons $200 per weapon and $200 each per "high capacity magazine."

Biden's plans call for a complete ban on manufacture and sale of new assault weapons and high capacity magazines (the definitions of which will ultimately be decided by left-wing politicians) thus preventing many Americans from purchasing their weapon(s) of choice.

Depending on how it is defined, the ban on high capacity magazines could also effect the sale and ownership of some handguns. Many have magazines that hold more than seven or ten rounds and as such could be banned from manufacture and sale. Current owners of said handguns could also be forced to sell them to the government or be taxed exorbitantly in order to keep them.

Yes, he wants to take your guns. He and his cohorts are fairly blatant and open about it. And his followers who deny it are wearing blinders.

Are We Headed Toward 1984?

I'm finding myself scratching my head while listening to the latest news about the Covid virus. Despite all of the precautions taken the virus is recurring in some areas of the country. "Masks and social distancing are the answer," they said. Except I know several people, including one of my doctors, who followed all precautions and still contracted the virus.

The death rate has fallen to less than 1% for most Americans yet cities and states are locking down once again. And yes, I know there have been 248,000 deaths in the United States but before you get self-righteous about it remember that more people die every single day from vehicle accidents than die from Covid. And depending on which statistics and agencies you believe, the actual death rate from Covid alone may be far lower.

Some states are now putting stringent restrictions in place, particularly for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. California Governor Newsome has limited family gatherings to 10 people, outside only. Oregon's governor has issued similar restrictions and has earned that violators will be prosecuted. Pennsylvania's governor has not only issued restrictions on the number of guests per household but has mandated family only - no unrelated guests, and wants to order people to wear masks inside their own homes. New York's Governor Cuomo has issued numbers restrictions on family gatherings and will require anyone entering New York from out of state to bring proof of a negative virus test (recent) and be tested again upon arrival or face quarantine. Joe Biden is still advocating lockdowns and a mask mandate should he become President.

Are states going to send police house to house on Thanksgiving Day to check the number of guests present? If a house has exactly the prescribed number of guests wouldn't a police presence take that number above the ordered threshold thereby causing a violation of the mandate(s)?

At least one county sheriff in Oregon has stated publicly that his office would not enforce the restrictions. New York sheriffs and even NYC Mayor De Blasio have stated they will not enforce Governor Cuomo's family gathering restrictions. Good for them.

Arlington National Cemetery the other day cancelled the annual "Wreaths Across America" event scheduled for next month citing Covid-19 concerns. The event, to be held outdoors, brings together families and friends to honor our fallen military members. President Trump intervened and the Secretary of the Army reversed the decision saying the event will be held after all. Outdoors with proper precautions it should be no more dangerous than the public celebration of Joe Biden's projected victory after the election, don't you think?

After personally listening to various doctors, both on TV and in person, there is no doubt in my mind that Democrats, the main stream media and big tech (social media) are using this virus to control the masses. All three work hard to discount and erase any dissent or opinions different than theirs. Social media is censoring dissenting opinions and "correcting" anyone who dares to voice that dissent on their platforms. Genuine journalism no longer exists, with the exception of a hand full of people who still report the truth instead of what the left wants us to hear.

I can't help but wonder if Biden gets sworn in as President how far the police state and censorship of free speech will go. Prosecution for family gatherings have already been introduced. During a Senate hearing with big tech executives this week Senator Chris Coons (D DE), a friend and advisor to Joe Biden, indicated he is in favor of increased scrutiny and censorship of "false information" on the internet. Can you say "Big Brother?" I knew you could.

The Left Is Changing America - And Not For The Better


Gotta love liberals who vilify and boycott a minority owned and operated company and its minority CEO. The crime? Praising President Trump while he (the CEO) was a guest at the White House. Civility has apparently been removed from the left-wing playbook and been replaced with destruction of anyone who does not publicly share the left-wing ideology. The recent Goya controversy demonstrates that perfectly.

Before President Trump was elected Americans were able to speak openly about their beliefs, popular or not, without fear of reprisal. Today, thanks to radical left-wing ideology and the accompanying anarchy, you can be murdered merely for daring to utter "All lives matter." You can lose your job for trying to be inclusive of all people, as in the case of the art curator who was run out of his position for saying publicly that his museum would still feature white artists along with artists of color.

You can resign your job as a writer/reporter for not leaning far enough to the left. Take columnist Bari Weiss, who was hired by the New York Times to bring outside opinions and topics to the slowly failing paper. She resigned this week saying basically that instead of the Times promoting different ideas, discussion and dialogue, they push their opinion on people.

"Truth (at the Times) isn't a process of collective discovery," Weiss wrote in her resignation letter, "but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job is to inform everyone else."

Granted, Weiss resigned of her own volition. But she did so because her articles didn't fit the Times' adopted, far-left agenda. In her letter she stated she was called a Nazi and a racist by her "enlightened" coworkers. Who would want to continue working under those conditions?

2020. Enter the age of the "cancel culture." The left has adopted a seek and destroy attitude against those who dare to disagree with them. "You are entitled to your opinion," they will say. "But don't you dare say it publicly or we'll take you down - first with insults and personal attacks, then, depending on your status in the country, with an all out attack to shut you up." Even some celebrities are participating in this. And no one who doesn't conform is safe.

I believe America has been permanently changed. If the left takes control of the government in January the anarchy will continue unchecked, or at least until the new liberal government gives them what they want. The rioters have tasted blood. They're not going to stop feasting voluntarily.

If President Trump gets reelected the anarchy will only increase until he decides to put an end to it with force. If that happens things will get really ugly before they get better. But if Trump is in a second term he has nothing to lose politically. With so many liberal mayors and governor's allowing the destruction and assaults to continue, federal law enforcement intervention will likely be the best and most viable option to restore order and the rule of law. Otherwise I see fed up patriots getting involved.

Are We Headed Toward Armed Conflict?


ESPN announced recently that the NFL will play the "Black National Anthem" before the actual, legal national anthem before each first game when the season starts.

The NFL can do whatever they wish - I don't and won't watch them anyway. But I am curious when the "Black National Anthem" came about and what law was passed making the song a national anthem. The "Star Spangled Banner" is the official national anthem of the United States. To my knowledge there is no other.

Professional sports organizations are not only condoning racial division but some are promoting it - the NFL and NASCAR being two prime examples. After a decades long struggle for equality it seems some Americans desire racial separation and even self-induced segregation, with black people demanding black only spaces on college campuses, etc.

And before anyone even starts, (and I know some who would) this isn't Trump's doing. Nothing about the current state of racial tension has anything to do with Trump. George Floyd was killed by police on Trump's watch. That is true. But several black people were killed by police on Obama's watch and there were protests and rioting following those events as well. So let's not pretend it's Trump's fault. If you go there you're simply being foolish.

The division is only growing. Black Lives Matter and Antifa are still calling for the murder of police officers while they continue to destroy property and assault people. The violent mobs, made up of mostly young, white idiots, are trying to push the country toward Marxism and most of them probably have no idea what it is.

These groups are destroying historic statues "in the name of George Floyd" without even understanding the significance of many of them. In one city they pulled down a statue of Christopher Columbus and spray painted "George Floyd" on the base. First - what has Christopher Columbus got to do with George Floyd and second, if it wasn't for Columbus the idiot protesters would even exist. There is no sound logic in their actions. Destroying ties to our history doesn't change our history. George Orwell was more right than even he knew.

Politicians are trying to defund police departments, much to the peril of the citizens. (Politicians don't have to worry. They use our dollars to hire security for themselves.) AOC wants to completely defund the NYPD. Might I suggest the NYPD remove all police from her family's neighborhood initially to see how it works out?

The proposal to defund police departments, and the reason for the proposal, would make an outsider think black people are being slaughtered by police on a daily basis. That's simply untrue. If you're honest you understand that the instances are the exception, not the rule. And in most cases the shootings have been ruled as justified and some of the deaths ruled to be accidental by the courts. But facts and truth don't usually matter to an angry mob.

The now infamous couple in Saint Louis, who armed themselves when a group of protesters broke through a wrought iron security gate and entered their supposedly secure neighborhood and began threatening them with death, are not out of the woods yet. There is talk that protesters plan to return to the neighborhood with violence and the couple has alkegedly been told by the police and several private security firms that they are on their own and to simply leave and let their beautiful home be destroyed. Since when is that acceptable in the United States of America? And where are the couple's friends and neighbors?

Sadly, I see armed confrontations in America's future. Gun sales have skyrocketed since March and many Americans are prepared to defend what's theirs. Black Lives Matter says they are training paramilitary groups to fight police and say they are "headed to the suburbs." But the suburbs are where most of the armed citizens are. BLM and Antifa might not like what they find if they venture out of the safety of Democrat run cities. But I fear it may happen. And it will be ugly.

The Passion of the Christ - a Medical Explanation of the Suffering of Jesus


Every year on this day I try to post this information. Not to gross people out (the information is gruesome) but to inform people about the actual suffering of Jesus Christ before and during His crucifixion. Few people realize how terribly Jesus suffered, from His last moments in the Garden of Gethsemane to His eventual death on the cross.

The information below was gathered from various articles I have read about Jesus' crucifixion. I didn't write it.
My wife and I were able to visit Israel in 2015. We were, at times, actually able to walk where Jesus walked. We walked on the stairs that led to the house of Caiaphas, where Jesus was first taken after His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. We walked down the road from the Mount of Olives to the Garden. This narrative means so much more to us now that we have actually been there.

Here is the information gleaned from the articles. As a former paramedic it means even more to me because I understand the medical implications more than a layman would. The suffering of Jesus was far more than most people realize. And the actuality of Him being human and God at the same time is really the only reason He didn't die more quickly.
Jesus chose His time of death. He uttered "It is finished," then "Father, into Your hands I commend My spirit" before His earthly body perished. It was His choice to die after He had fulfilled the scriptures.
The physical passion of the Christ began in Gethsemane. Of the many aspects of this initial suffering, the one of greatest physiological interest is the bloody sweat. It is interesting that St. Luke, the physician, is the only one to mention this. He says, “And being in agony, He prayed the longer. And His sweat became as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.”  Every ruse (trick) imaginable has been used by modern scholars to explain away this description, apparently under the mistaken impression that this just doesn’t happen. A great deal of effort could have been saved had the doubters consulted the medical literature. Though very rare, the phenomenon of Hematidrosis, or bloody sweat, is well documented. Under great emotional stress of the kind our Lord suffered, tiny capillaries in the sweat glands can break, thus mixing blood with sweat. This process might well have produced marked weakness and possible shock. 
After the arrest in the middle of the night, Jesus was next brought before the Sanhedrin and Caiphus, the High Priest; it is here that the first physical trauma was inflicted. A soldier struck Jesus across the face for remaining silent when questioned by Caiphus. The palace guards then blind-folded Him and mockingly taunted Him to identify them as they each passed by, spat upon Him, and struck Him in the face. 
In the early morning, battered and bruised, dehydrated, and exhausted from a sleepless night, Jesus is taken across the Praetorium of the Fortress Antonia, the seat of government of the Procurator of Judea, Pontius Pilate. You are, of course, familiar with Pilate’s action in attempting to pass responsibility to Herod Antipas, the Tetrarch of Judea. Jesus apparently suffered no physical mistreatment at the hands of Herod and was returned to Pilate.
It was then, in response to the cries of the mob, that Pilate ordered Bar-Abbas released and condemned Jesus to scourging and crucifixion.  There is much disagreement among authorities about the unusual scourging as a prelude to crucifixion. Most Roman writers from this period do not associate the two. Many scholars believe that Pilate originally ordered Jesus scourged as his full punishment and that the death sentence by crucifixion came only in response to the taunt by the mob that the Procurator was not properly defending Caesar against this pretender who allegedly claimed to be the King of the Jews.  Preparations for the scourging were carried out when the Prisoner was stripped of His clothing and His hands tied to a post above His head. It is doubtful the Romans would have made any attempt to follow the Jewish law in this matter, but the Jews had an ancient law prohibiting more than forty lashes.  The Roman legionnaire steps forward with the flagrum (or flagellum) in his hand. This is a short whip consisting of several heavy, leather thongs with two small balls of lead attached near the ends of each. The heavy whip is brought down with full force again and again across Jesus’ shoulders, back, and legs.
At first the thongs cut through the skin only. Then, as the blows continue, they cut deeper into the subcutaneous tissues, producing first an oozing of blood from the capillaries and veins of the skin, and finally spurting arterial bleeding from vessels in the underlying muscles.  The small balls of lead first produce large, deep bruises which are broken open by subsequent blows. Finally the skin of the back is hanging in long ribbons and the entire area is an unrecognizable mass of torn, bleeding tissue. When it is determined by the centurion in charge that the prisoner is near death, the beating is finally stopped.  The half-fainting Jesus is then untied and allowed to slump to the stone pavement, wet with His own blood.
The Roman soldiers see a great joke in this provincial Jew claiming to be king. They throw a robe across His shoulders and place a stick in His hand for a scepter. They still need a crown to make their travesty complete. Flexible branches covered with long thorns (commonly used in bundles for firewood) are plaited into the shape of a crown and this is pressed into His scalp. Again there is copious bleeding, the scalp being one of the most vascular areas of the body. 
After mocking Him and striking Him across the face, the soldiers take the stick from His hand and strike Him across the head, driving the thorns deeper into His scalp. Finally, they tire of their sadistic sport and the robe is torn from His back. Already having adhered to the clots of blood and serum in the wounds, its removal causes excruciating pain just as in the careless removal of a surgical bandage, and almost as though He were again being whipped the wounds once more begin to bleed.  In deference to Jewish custom, the Romans return His garments. The heavy patibulum of the cross is tied across His shoulders, and the procession of the condemned Christ, two thieves, and the execution detail of Roman soldiers headed by a centurion begins its slow journey along the Via Dolorosa.
In spite of His efforts to walk erect, the weight of the heavy wooden beam, together with the shock produced by copious blood loss, is too much. He stumbles and falls. The rough wood of the beam gouges into the lacerated skin and muscles of the shoulders. He tries to rise, but human muscles have been pushed beyond their endurance.  The centurion, anxious to get on with the crucifixion, selects a stalwart North African onlooker, Simon of Cyrene, to carry the cross. Jesus follows, still bleeding and sweating the cold, clammy sweat of shock, until the 650 yard journey from the fortress Antonia to Golgotha is finally completed.  Jesus is offered wine mixed with myrrh, a mild analgesic mixture. He refuses to drink. Simon is ordered to place the patibulum on the ground and Jesus quickly thrown backward with His shoulders against the wood. The legionnaire feels for the depression at the front of the wrist. He drives a heavy, square, wrought-iron nail through the wrist and deep into the wood. Quickly, he moves to the other side and repeats the action, being careful not to pull the arms too tightly, but to allow some flexion and movement. The patibulum is then lifted in place at the top of the stipes and the titulus reading, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews,” is nailed in place. 
The left foot is now pressed backward against the right foot, and with both feet extended, toes down, a nail is driven through the arch of each, leaving the knees moderately flexed. The Victim is now crucified. As He slowly sags down with more weight on the nails in the wrists, excruciating pain shoots along the fingers and up the arms to explode in the brain — the nails in the wrists are putting pressure on the median nerves.
As He pushes Himself upward to avoid this stretching torment, He places His full weight on the nail through His feet. Again there is the searing agony of the nail tearing through the nerves between the metatarsal bones of the feet.  At this point, as the arms fatigue, great waves of cramps sweep over the muscles, knotting them in deep, relentless, throbbing pain. With these cramps comes the inability to push Himself upward. Hanging by his arms, the pectoral muscles are paralyzed and the intercostal muscles are unable to act. Air can be drawn into the lungs, but cannot be exhaled. Jesus fights to raise Himself in order to get even one short breath. Finally, carbon dioxide builds up in the lungs and in the blood stream and the cramps partially subside. Spasmodically, he is able to push Himself upward to exhale and bring in the life-giving oxygen.
It was undoubtedly during these periods that He uttered the seven short sentences recorded: 
The first, looking down at the Roman soldiers throwing dice for His seamless garment, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” 
The second, to the penitent thief, “Today thou shalt be with me in Paradise.” 
The third, looking down at the terrified, grief-stricken adolescent John — the beloved Apostle — he said, “Behold thy mother.” Then, looking to His mother Mary, “Woman behold thy son.” 
The fourth cry is from the beginning of the 22nd Psalm, “My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?” 
Jesus experienced hours of limitless pain, cycles of twisting, joint-rending cramps, intermittent partial asphyxiation, searing pain where tissue is torn from His lacerated back as He moves up and down against the rough timber. Then another agony begins -- a terrible crushing pain deep in the chest as the pericardium slowly fills with serum and begins to compress the heart.  One remembers again the 22nd Psalm, the 14th verse: “I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.” 
It is now almost over. The loss of tissue fluids has reached a critical level; the compressed heart is struggling to pump heavy, thick, sluggish blood into the tissue; the tortured lungs are making a frantic effort to gasp in small gulps of air. The markedly dehydrated tissues send their flood of stimuli to the brain. Jesus gasps His fifth cry, “I thirst.”  One remembers another verse from the prophetic 22nd Psalm: “My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou has brought me into the dust of death.” A sponge soaked in posca, the cheap, sour wine which is the staple drink of the Roman legionaries, is lifted to His lips. He apparently doesn’t take any of the liquid.
The body of Jesus is now in extremes, and He can feel the chill of death creeping through His tissues. This realization brings out His sixth words, possibly little more than a tortured whisper, “It is finished.”  His mission of atonement has completed. Finally He can allow his body to die. 
With one last surge of strength, he once again presses His torn feet against the nail, straightens His legs, takes a deeper breath, and utters His seventh and last cry, “Father! Into thy hands I commit my spirit.” 
The rest you know. In order that the Sabbath not be profaned, the Jews asked that the condemned men be dispatched and removed from the crosses. The common method of ending a crucifixion was by crurifracture, the breaking of the bones of the legs. This prevented the victim from pushing himself upward; thus the tension could not be relieved from the muscles of the chest and rapid suffocation occurred. The legs of the two thieves were broken, but when the soldiers came to Jesus they saw that this was unnecessary. 
Apparently, to make doubly sure of death, the legionnaire drove his lance through the fifth interspace between the ribs, upward through the pericardium and into the heart. The 34th verse of the 19th chapter of the Gospel according to St. John reports: “And immediately there came out blood and water.” That is, there was an escape of water fluid from the sac surrounding the heart, giving postmortem evidence that Our Lord died not the usual crucifixion death by suffocation, but of heart failure (a broken heart) due to shock and constriction of the heart by fluid in the pericardium.

It Is Well With My Soul



Our church hasn't held public services for the last two Sundays because of the corona virus and our governor's instructions. But the services are online. We watched this morning.

Near the end of the service our pastor, Dr. Carroll Marr, spoke about the history of one of my favorite hymns - “It Is Well With My Soul.” I had absolutely no idea about the history of the lyrics so after listening to what Dr. Marr said I looked it up for myself.

The author of the lyrics, Horatio Spafford, was a successful attorney and Real Estate investor in Chicago in the late 1800s. He lost a fortune in the great fire of 1871. Around the same time he lost his four year old son to Scarlet Fever.

A short while later Mr. Spafford decided his wife and four daughters might benefit from a vacation abroad and put them on a ship to Great Britain with plans to join them as soon as he got some of his affairs in order. Somewhere in the Atlantic the ship they were on collided with another ship and sank. His wife survived but his four daughters all perished. When his wife arrived in Great Britain she sent a telegram that began “Saved alone. What shall I do?”

Spafford soon boarded another ship to join his wife in Great Britain. During the journey, the Captain of the ship knew of the tragedy that had struck the Spafford family. Upon Spafford's request, when the ship neared the sight where the tragedy had occurred, Spafford was summoned to the deck. As he looked down at the water where his daughters had died, words of hope and comfort filled his heart. He wrote them down and they have become a well-loved hymn.

I can't say whether or not Spafford wrote all six verses himself or had assistance, but this song has been one of my favorites since I was a kid - not only the words but the melody. As one who has experienced the loss of a child this song now means more to me than ever. I cannot imagine Mr. Spafford's pain and devastation at losing all of his children. Or maybe I can since my son was an only child.

Anyway, the song reads as follows:

Stop Being Offended By Everything



Calling Covid-19 the "Chinese virus," because that's where it originated, (you know - like the Hong Kong flu, the Spanish flu, etc.) has been deemed racist and Xenophobic by the left and the media. Even though the reference has nothing to do with the Chinese people but merely the country of the virus' origin, saying it is apparently evil.

Starting today I would appreciate people not calling foods by their country of origin. Kung Pow Chicken, fried rice, Lo Mein, etc., should no longer be called " Chinese food." Spaghetti, lasagna eggplant Parmesan, etc. should not be called "Italian food." Sushi should not be called "Japanese food." Russian dressing should not be called Russian.

All of these terms can be deemed racist and/or Xenophobic and people should cease and desist from using them, finding instead a less offensive description. Obviously p, in this politically correct world, things should not be named after their city or country of origin since leftists and the media are so easily offended for other people who don't much care about it one way or another.
Another important food - hummus - shouldn't be called Mediterranean or Middle Eastern because that includes numerous countries rather than just one. We could start a war or something.

Obviously I'm being satirical but in a country, half of whose people demand political correctness at any and all cost, it's easy to see just how ridiculous things could get if left unchecked. My advice - stop being offended by everything - particularly by things that don't directly affect your life. Calling the Covid virus "Chinese" doesn't hurt you. It doesn't hurt the Chinese. Let the little things go. You'll live a happier life.

Dear main stream (left-wing) media...

We the people who support the Second Amendment want to apologize to you for the fact that the pro-gun rally in Virginia  on Monday didn't end in violence and bloodshed. We know you were salivating for any report of such behavior by the "gun crazed right," and your day was ruined when it didn't happen. Many of you probably already had most of your lead stories written and were just waiting to hear that an incident had occurred so you could fill in the details. Sorry to disappoint you. You couldn't even report on how the protesters left trash and litter all over the place because they didn't. They cleaned up after themselves and probably left the streets of Richmond cleaner than they were on Sunday. Next time, if you want violence and trash, cover a left-wing eco protest or a pro-abortion protest. Those of us who watch news reports that are not provided by you have seen the results of those protests. I'm sure you get good ratings from your viewers by showing women dressed up in vagina hats/costumes but you don't show the trash and litter left behind by them and by those protesting for the environment while they throw their trash and "Save the Earth" signs on the ground. The violence you wanted was averted not because of Governor Northam's "teams" but because the violent left-wing extremists apparently didn't show up. Perhaps they were afraid of all those gun toting right-wingers. If so... good. They didn't need to be there anyway. I'm sure you all were disappointed when the protesters inside the fence didn't storm the capitol building. That would have made for some great reporting. But that didn't happen either. Those inside the fence were peaceful and mostly quiet. They were simply sharing their belief in the Second Amendment and were doing it in numbers. Wait for your headlines. My prediction is that despite so many people being opposed to Governor Northam's plan to further restrict the Second Amendment in Virginia, he and the Democrats will go through with it. There will be more protests and when the sanctuary counties and various law enforcement agencies refuse to comply things will likely get interesting. It will be the first time in a long time that law enforcement refused to follow the laws of the land because they believe them to be unconstitutional. So just wait for it. You'll get your headlines.
