To Defend And Protect... Common Core?

There's a news item out of Albany, New York today about an English teacher who gave her students a persuasive writing assignment according to the new Common Core standards of writing.  The assignment was as follows:

"Research historical propaganda, write an essay that's five paragraphs long, with an introduction, three body paragraphs containing your strongest arguments, and a conclusion that Jews were the source of the problems in Nazi Germany."

Students were also told they were to pretend their teacher is a Nazi and convince her of their stand. "You do not have a choice in your position, You must argue that Jews are evil, and use solid rationale from government propaganda to convince me of your loyalty to the Third Reich!”

The Albany schools superintendent, Marguerite Vanden Wyngaard, has issued an apology for the assignment and the "obvious poor judgement" of the teacher.  The teacher is reportedly suspended at this time.

“That’s not the assignment that any school district, and certainly not mine, is going to tolerate. Obviously, we have a severe lack of judgement and a horrible level of insensitivity,” she said. But she added, “No one here believes that malice was the intent.”

Wyngaard said the exercise reflects the type of writing expected of students under the new Common Core curriculum, the tough new academic standards that require more sophisticated writing. Such assignments attempt to connect English with history and social studies.

As pathetic as the story is, what's more pathetic is the way it is being reported - or maybe "not reported" is a better phrase.  Of the five various articles that I read about this incident, only two mentioned the new Common Core education system as being a part of it. Conservative newspapers and web pages mentioned Ms. Wyngaard's statement about Common Core.  The liberal outlets, including the local CBS TV network and the Washington Post, left that out completely. Once again the left-wing media is protecting an Obama program at all costs.

It's getting to the point where learning any true facts from the main stream, left-wing media is impossible. Instead of journalism, most of them might as well be on the Obama payroll. The media used to be the ones who kept our government honest.  Now many of them are assisting the government in being dishonest.  It's a sad state of affairs...
