Chris Matthews: "Only Whites Can Be Racist"

Yesterday on “Hardball”, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews made a statement that indicates his belief that only white people can be racists.

Responding to an audio clip from Rush Limbaugh’s radio show earlier in the day, Matthews seized on one caller’s statements to attack Rush.  The caller, citing a couple of incidents where racial remarks had been made and President Obama seemingly ignored them, said it sometimes seems that President Obama inspires the remarks.

The caller was referring to an incident on Easter Sunday when the pastor of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington D.C., made the following statement with President Obama in the congregation.  “It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling us back … for blacks to be back in the back of the bus, for women to be back in the kitchen, for gays to be in the closet, and for immigrants to be back on their side of the border” said Dr. Luis Leon, Rector.  The caller suggested maybe President Obama inspires people to make statements like these; that maybe people are emboldened by his presence.
I happened to be listening to the show during that call.  Rush’s response, after he summed up the caller’s statements, was “You may be right.”

Apparently that was enough to fuel Matthews’ ire and he then decided Rush needed a lesson on the definition of racism.  Here is Chris Matthews’ definition of racism… “Actually, Rushbo, racism is the belief that one race — whites — should rule all others. Get your definitions straight!”

Apparently Mr. Matthews doesn’t use a dictionary when he’s lecturing others on the definition of words.  Merriam-Webster’s definition is as follows: “Racism – noun – 1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.  2: racial prejudice or discrimination.”  I see nothing in that definition that limits it to one particular race.

Perhaps Matthews isn’t up to date on people like Louis Fararkhan or Mohammed Morsi, or even  Malik Zulu Shabazz, and many other blatant racists throughout history and the world.  Without a doubt white people have their share of racists - and a long history.  (The USA and South Africa come to mind.)  But it’s certainly not limited to whites.  I wonder what Matthews would call those people of color who hate because of skin color, race or ethnicity.  My guess would be “Justified.”  That would be a typical response from the guilt-ridden white left.

A friend of mine heard Matthews’ statement and posted the following comments on Facebook.  “Chris Mathews is the most Ignorant SOB on Air. He should come out of the closet and hook up with Piers Morgan. They could turn the lights down low, open a bottle of Wild Irish Rose, turn on an Obama speech and take turns rubbing the tingles out of each other’s legs!  And both of them could feel superior and not racist since they were watching (their) Black porn! Well,,, half Black Porn...”  Crude, I know.  But I found it hysterically funny - although the mental image it conjures up is a bit disturbing.  I could have done without that.  Thanks for the laugh, Jeremy!

While he beats out CNN consistently in ratings, Matthews’ audience isn’t exactly the largest in cable news.  FOX beats out MSNBC by huge margins every hour.

Chris Matthews is a racist in reverse.  Like many other liberals, he hates white people for being white and will say anything, loudly and boldly, to justify his feelings.  If he had put as much emotion and as many bold statements into Jimmy Carter’s speeches – Carter may have been a more effective President.  Nah…  probably not.
