Sexism and the 2010 Election

Last week, Rush Limbaugh was accused of sexism by the main stream media and women’s rights groups because he played the song “Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead” in honor of Nancy Pelosi after Republicans captured the majority in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.  Limbaugh never mentioned Pelosi by name but insinuated it was for her.  It was pretty funny given Pelosi’s rants and stupid remarks in the past few years, such as “Unemployment compensation checks are one of the best ways to create jobs.”
Ironically, when California’s governor-elect called his opponent, Meg Whitman, a ‘whore’ nothing was said by the various women’s rights groups.  In fact, the President of the California chapter of N.O.W. said it was OK for Brown to say that because it was true.  By the same token, Joy Behar spent the entire week before the election calling Sharon Angle a “bitch” and again, nothing was said about it.  And she mentioned Angle specifically, by name, so there was no doubt who she was talking about.  But Rush plays one song, without mentioning anyone by name, and the left goes off.  It simply further proves the belief that people can target Republican women for slander and degradation and the left is fine with it.  But let the tables be turned and they are livid.
In other news around the country, CAIR, the Committee for American-Islam Relations, is suing the state of Oklahoma because the voters in the state voted down a measure seeking to allow Sharia law and international law to be considered when trying a case involving a Muslim defendant.  Seventy percent of the voters said “No.”  A representative of CAIR says this vote was bigoted and is just the beginning of more hate and prejudice against Muslims.  He said if this is allowed to stand, in the future the people may vote to ban the Quran or Muslim mosques, etc.   This is pure nonsense.  What it means is this is America and we have our own laws.  We do not have to change those laws for people who choose to follow a religion that has its own, somewhat Neanderthal laws when it comes to women and other topics, such as murder.  If the United States adopts and allows international law and Sharia law to infiltrate our courts then it only stands to reason we should let Mormon law on polygamy into our courts. This measure never should have been on the ballot in the first place.  There is no room for Sharia law within the laws of the United States of America.
I’m truly tired of Islam trying to tell America what to do.  If you are Muslim and that is what you believe, that is absolutely your right and I support your right to believe as you do.  But if you choose to live by Sharia law then it would behoove you to move to a country where you can practice that way of life without direct conflict to the laws of our land.  We allow freedom of religion in this country but that freedom doesn’t allow you to circumvent the laws against violence toward women, killing your children if they dishonor the family (by talking to someone) or killing those who don’t believe as you do.  If the judges in this case reverse the decision of the voters and allow Sharia law in the state of Oklahoma, it will be a huge step toward moving this country away from American principles.  Unfortunately, some of the liberal judges we have in this country are doing just that.

  1. The witch is not dead, dammit! But her broomstick is smaller, and doesn't fly as high.
