We watched Disney's original "Swiss Family Robinson" with our granddaughters last night. It was filmed in 1960. There were obvious blunders in the show that I never noticed as a kid. Zebras, a tiger, ostriches and an African elephant on an island in the West Indies. I guess they weren't to worried about authenticity back then. The girls enjoyed it.
I couldn't help but wonder when Disney will remake this movie to their newly adopted woke standards.
If the new Disney is true to form, the Asian pirate's will become a diverse group of all skin colors and ethnicities and the "Swiss" family Robinson will be black or Hispanic. One of the boys will be changed to a girl, or the girl rescued from the pirates will become a boy so Disney can work a same sex relationship into the movie.
Some may think this is satire... and to an extent, it is. But at the same time it's not. Look what they did to Snow White, Buzz Lightyear and The Little Mermaid. Apparently Disney worries about being woke more than profits because they've lost $900 million in the last couple of years from their woke movies.
Many woke minded people will say "That's wonderful! Disney doesn't care about profits!" Except it won't last long. I doubt Disney stockholders are pleased about it. Look for some major changes soon.
"Go woke, go broke," seems to be the norm these days. I'm not sure why corporations don't get that. Anheuser Busch seems to be getting it. Bud Light doesn't seem to be rebounding. AB is still losing money, along with Disney.
Hey, Disney... here's an idea. Stop destroying your classic movies and simply create new ones for your woke audiences. You're losing fans big time.
