Remember back in March of 2008 when Hillary Clinton talked about landing in Bosnia under sniper fire?
"I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."
Remember how it turned out not to be true? Within weeks Politico.com provided pictures that completely destroyed Mrs. Clinton's statements. She then said that magic phrase politicians use for lying... "It was a misstatement."
Remember how many liberals demanded her resignation as Secretary of State because of it? Nah - me neither. In fact, if she announces her candidacy she's a sure thing for the Democrat Presidential nomination in 2016.
Fast forward to 2015, NBC's "Nightly News" anchor, Brian Williams, has been telling a story for over 10 years about his helicopter taking fire and having to make an emergency landing in the Iraqi desert, only to be rescued by American forces who "happened to be in the area." Except that wasn't true either.
Williams recently admitted that he lied about this incident in Iraq. His helicopter was at least an hour behind the ones who took fire and he was in no danger whatsoever. But instead of being a man and saying he lied, Williams said he "mis-remembered." Really, Brian? How do you mis-remember being in a helicopter that was taking fire in a war zone? You were either there or you weren't. And you weren't. You didn't mis-remember. You made it up to make people pay attention to you. Just like Hillary did.
Some have called for Williams' resignation but I just don't see the need. He works for NBC. He doesn't have much of an audience anyway and most people in the country know that NBC lies on a regular basis. And they cover up for the Obama administration.
Even if he does get fired he's got a future. If Hillary gets elected President in 2016 (God forbid) she'll need a good liar Press Secretary. Given their propensities for story telling it seems like Williams and Hillary are made for each other.
I think when all is said and done Williams and Clinton should at least get together and write a combined memoir of what it's like to be in a military aircraft and pretend to take enemy ground fire. They can borrow the title from this article.
Taking Fire... A Fairy Tale
