Even electric cars have parts (plastic, tires, etc) that are made with petroleum. And what kind of fuel is used to power the machines that mine the elements for electric car batteries? You guessed it.
We can't do away with oil and petroleum products until we figure out how to power the world and manufacture products without it. And we're nowhere near that yet.
