California To Allow Non-physicians To Perform Legal Abortions

In an effort to prove he really is as lame as I've always thought he was and to demonstrate just how liberal and heathen the state of California is - California Governor Jerry Brown is poised to sign new legislation that will allow non-physicians to perform abortions in the state.  The legislation is highly backed by Planned Parenthood.  Imagine that.

The California Medical Association has endorsed AB 154 because of “provisions for training in the bill and the amendments that clarify physician supervision.” But the training is to be provided by the Board of Registered Nursing, not by physicians.  The protocols for defining “supervision” have not been specified and there is nothing in the legislation requiring a physician to be present or on-site during an abortion.

Planned Parenthood highly praises the legislation because it will allow their lay staff to perform abortions basically unsupervised and increase production.  If no physician is required to be present there will be less time restrictions and more people able to legally perform abortions.  A dream come true for the largest abortion for profit provider in the country.

The new law will permit licensed non-physicians to perform two kinds of abortions in the first trimester – the first by medication and the second by aspiration, a procedure which requires the insertion of medical instruments into the uterus. Many doctors agree that non-physicians could provide medications with few risks however, nearly all would draw the line at the invasive aspiration procedure being done without physician supervision.  Yet it's going to happen anyway.

Following the evidence and verdict in the recent Kermit Gosnell abortion case, it's amazing to me that a state (and governor, no matter how lame) could consider allowing medical lay people to perform unsupervised abortions.  What are they going to do if something goes wrong and there is no doctor anywhere near to take action?  Calling an ambulance is fine but if you're performing a risky procedure why would you not want a doctor present?  It makes absolutely no sense.

Killing unborn babies in this country has become a multi-million dollar, government sponsored industry.  I can't help but wonder if America is the only country where voluntarily killing your baby is legal but if you kill a pregnant woman with your car (or any other way) you get a second murder charge?  What's the difference?  After all - a blob of tissue is a blob of tissue, right...?
